Story

Name: Date:  Chloe Burke 9/26/11

Topic: Eastview Girls Soccer Angle:

Script IN (for anchor): Girls Soccer wins big against Burnsville

Stand up:  After a rough couple of games the previous week, ruining the girls undefeated record they had to find a way to pick themselves up for last Tuesdays game against Burnsville.

1st Interview:  (Taylor Heppner) This was a game all of us girls were really looking forward to. It was a good opportunity to get us back on our winning streak and beat a really good team that was ranked in state.

Segue:  Taylor (Junior) knew why they had to win this game, but how were they going to get their energy levels up after losing their first game of the season last week?

2nd Interview:  (Kellie McGahn) I knew we could count on our coaches inspiring pep talks and the captains to really fire us up.  It was awesome we were soon just all feeding off eachothers positive energy!

Segue: Turns out, the the girls motivation to win did them justice.

3rd Interview:  (Emily Sutliff) It felt great when the final whistle blew.  I knew we were right back on our winning streak. Go eastview!

Close:  They sure really did step it up last week winning against Burnsville and we wish them luck for the rest of the season. Be sure to go cheer on the girls tommorow night in the staduim at 7 against Apple Valley!

The article tried to explain how to prevent homosexuality and the steps parents can take to do so.  Even though homosexuality is a state of mind and not an infectious disease.
3. Which Criteria does the story have?
Prominence and significance.
4. How would you make this a broadcast journalism piece? What footage would want to shoot?
You would want to shoot possible examples of overly-nurturing home life and interview gay/lesbian/bisexual people to ask them about their childhoods.

The Elephant in the Room, at a Vuitton Celebration

At a fashion show in New York, Marc Jacobs collaborated with Katie Grand to create a new fashion statement in the Louis Vuitton line.  The show was memorable due to the outlandish mannequins whose heads had been replaced with plaster replicas of Vuitton's most popular bag designs.  There were elegant decorations, and literally, a plaster Elephant in the room.  The show is fabled to be one of the best fashion shows in the recent years of NYC fashion.

Opening Activity 9/21/11

I read an article about a new ice cream flavor "Schweddy Balls" that Ben and Jerry's created.  The problem is a group of christian moms got together in order to ban the new Ben and Jerry's flavor.  This is not the first time ever that Ben and Jerry's has been caught in a problem like this.  Ben and Jerry's claims that the flavor was not intended to offend anyone.

In class Questions

IN CLASS QUESTIONS:

1. What is the rule of threes/filling the silence?
You ask a person three times and the first time they give you the answer YOU want to hear, the second they explain it more, and the third they tell you exactly what happened.  The rule of silence is when there is a silence and then the person feels obligated to talk.

2. Explain the non-question question.
A non-question question is when you are starting to interview someone, but talk about things that are smaller than the subject so the person becomes comfortable with you.

Opening Activity 9/19/11

I read an article of a man that was shot in the face over the weekend hunting in Wisconsin.  I thought it was interesting that the man would not say the accident was an accident or a result of foul play.  luckily the man is in stable condition and doctors say his injuries are not life threatening.  Three criteria that I think fit this story is significance, proximity, and unusual.

Jonesboro Shootings

Two boys in Jonesboro, Arkansas killed four students and a teacher. They were incredibly young, Mitchell Johnson age 13, and Andrew Golden age 11. They could have been influenced to commit such a crime by growing up around guns and belonging to shooting clubs.

We would take the angle from the parents of the kids who were killed.

Around 2 million women are developing breast cancer or cervical cancer a year. Results are showing that the diseases could overtake maternal mortality as a cause of death in younger women.  I think this story is something that ever women should read to be informed of these diseases.  I hope that once women read this article they are aware of these diseases and know they should get regualr screenings to stay healthy.
I think that this article has significance to all women and thats what made this story newsworthy.

Opening Activty 9/14/11

I read an article about the forest fires up north in the boundary waters.  I learned that the fires have been causing multiple schools in Wisconsin to shut down all outdoor activities due to the poor air quality from the smoke.  I dont think that the people in Wisconsin should be upset though, beacause, the haze will soon clear.  The haze also caused a baseball game to be posponed.  As a spectator I would have been mad but there is nothing anbody can do.  I hope they can get the fires out soon up north.

I dont think that google+ will be as sucessful as Facebook online gaming.  Why? Because I know that not many people have heard of google+.  With not many people knowing about google+ nobody will use the social newtwork's online game system.  Even though right now I can't see google+ being sucessful I can see the site becoming very popular in the future once people know more about this up and coming social networking site.  In order for more people to use google+ it should offer things that Facebook doesn't.  The social network's games is a good start though!!

Opening Activity 9/12/11

On September 11, 2001 two hi-jacked planes crashed into the twin towers in New York.  This specific documentary interviewed several wives which had husbands who were victims of the attack.  One woman in particular talked to her husband right up to the moment he parished in the collapse.  Another wife, her husband was on the plane intended to go to the White House.  She talked to him on the phone several times while he was on the plane and this is when he told her that they were not going to let this plane attack to U.S.  He told his wife that him a several other passangers were going to break into the cock-pit and attack the terrorists. In result they killed the terrorists and didn't allow the plane to crash into any buildings.  These people's stories really touched me and made me realize we should never forget the victoms of 9-11.

Maggie

Maggie is a student at EVHS and is very involved in co-curricular activities suchas choir, band, and the musicals.  She leads a pretty average life, but this past summer a tragic event occured in Maggie's life.  Early July her parents informed her with some sadenning news that her Grandpa had passed away due to a fatal case of lung cancer.  Maggie's thoughts were instantly filled with regret as she was not close with her Grandpa.  She just wished she had made more of an effort to become closer with him.  Months have passed and Maggie is doing better, but still to this day it makes her sad to think about.
